"We can achieve even greater progress through deeper and more strategic collaboration"
Speaking in Tokyo at an international conference concerned with mobilising international partnerships for antimicrobial innovation, Dr. Manabu Sumi, Director-General of the Infectious Disease Prevention and Control Department, Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, Japan, noted that the challenges facing efforts to develop new antimicrobials must be responded to with bold innovation strengthened through robust public–private partnership.
Dr. Sumi highlighted the strong reputations and capabilities of both the pharmaceutical and academic research sectors in the United Kingdom and Japan and called on the two countries to “achieve even greater progress through deeper and more strategic collaboration.”
